Halos' Matthews Unhappy In New Role
Outfielder Gary Matthews Jr. was told Sunday by manager Mike Scioscia that he will be the team's fifth outfielder this season.  Matthews was granted permission to leave camp for a day after the meeting.

Halos Shut Down Lackey
Angels pitcher John Lackey was given a cortisone shot for his strained right elbow and will begin the regular season on the disabled list.  "Obviously, it's frustrating that I'm not going to be ready for opening day, but I better take care of it now and be ready for the end," Lackey said.

Hunter OK After Strange Play
X-rays on Angels outfielder Torii Hunter came back negative after he was hit in the face by a ball that ricocheted off the center field wall.  It was initially reported that Hunter crashed face first into the wall trying to run down the ball.  Hunter is listed as day-to-day.

Torii Hunter Leaves Game With Injury
Angels outfielder Torii Hunter left Wednesday's game against the Colorado Rockies in the first inning after slamming face first into the center field wall in pursuit of a fly ball.  Hunter walked off the field under his own power.

Angels right-handed pitcher John Lackey will miss Friday's start against the Arizona Diamondbacks because of elbow tightness.  Lackey is not scheduled to pitch again until April 1.
