This is semi-breaking news, but Orlando Cabrera has just signed with the Oakland Athletics and I am excited!  The trade for Matt Holliday had me confused, the signing of Jason Giambi had me mad, but the signing of Orlando Cabrera gets me excited for this season?!  The deal is for $4mil, but for this season only.  I wouldn't have minded a two or three year deal for him, but Cabrera assumes that he can get a better deal next season.  So, he will be playing for another contract, which could turn out very nicely for the A's.

With Cabrera on board, he will be the everyday shortstop for the A's. He doesn't really do anything on defense that Bobby Crosby can do, but he does a lot more than Crosby on the offensive side of the ball. Which leads me to wonder, what happens to Crosby now? Is he just a backup for this season? I'm really not sure, but I will keep my eyes on that situation.

Cabrera will most likely head to the top part of the lineup and with him up there, Holliday and Giambi will actually have somebody to drive in.

Does this move make Oakland a World Series contender? No, but it does give them some hope for the AL West title this season. I never thought I would say that this season.

Now that this issue is finalized, is Nomar the next to put on the green and gold?
