Report: Sheffield To Become a Met
The Mets have reportedly contacted outfielder Gary Sheffield and a deal could be reached as early as Friday night.  Sheffield, 41, is one home run shy of 500 for his career.

Mets' Schneider Out With Knee Injury
New York catcher Brian Schneider will be out indefinitely with an injured right knee.  An MRI on Wednesday showed Schneider has a strained right posterior capsule and calf.

Mets Sign Junior Spivey
Infielder Junior Spivey inked a Minor League deal with New York on Monday.  The 34-year-old Spivey last played in 2005, when he batted .232 with 7 home runs and 24 runs batted in for the Milwaukee Brewers and Washington Nationals.

Mets Claim Nieve Off Waivers
New York claimed pitcher Fernando Nieve off waivers from the Houston Astros.  The 26-year-old right-hander finished 0-1 with a 8.44 ERA last season for Houston.

Redding to Start Season on DL
Mets pitcher Tim Redding will begin the regular season on the disable list with right shoulder fatigue.  Redding signed a one-year, $2.25 million deal with New York in January.
