Seattle outfielder Ichiro Suzuki will begin the regular season on the 15-day disabled list with a bleeding ulcer.  "It was a very difficult decision to place Ichiro on the disabled list, especially since we know what a fierce competitor he is, and how important it is to him to help the team," Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said.

Report: Sheffield To Become a Met
The Mets have reportedly contacted outfielder Gary Sheffield and a deal could be reached as early as Friday night.  Sheffield, 41, is one home run shy of 500 for his career.

Cards Expect Glaus To Miss At Least Two Months
St. Louis announced that third baseman Troy Glaus had a setback in his rehabilitation from offseason arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder and will miss at least two months.  The Cardinals will reportedly re-evaluate Glaus' status on June 1.

Rangers Cut Catalanotto
Texas released infielder/outfielder Frank Catalanotto on Wednesday.  The move allows the Rangers to keep outfielder Andruw Jones on the roster.  Catalanotto is owed $6 million over the next two years.

Baker Out, Liriano In For Twins' Opener
Minnesota announced that pitcher and previously named Opening Day starter Scott Baker will begin the season on the disabled list with stiffness in his right shoulder.  Left-handed pitcher Francisco Liriano will start the Twins' opener April 6 against the Seattle Mariners.

Colorado manager Clint Hurdle named right-handed pitcher Huston Street as the team's closer over righty Manuel Corpas.  "This is good news," Street said. "It's what I worked for. But that's not taking anything away from Manny. It's a choice made by the organization. That choice can change, too.
